More than two and a half million Russians have already signed a petition against raising the retirement age. Boris Kravchenko, president of the all-Russian association of trade unions “Confederation of Labor of Russia”, member of the Presidential Council for Human Rights, stated this at a press conference in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to him, the petition should be submitted for consideration to the State Duma of the Russian Federation, but due to the formation of a new government, it is not yet possible to consider it.

“We chose the form of signing petitions as the first stage of the campaign. We are talking about the petition that we launched on the ChangeOrg portal. Currently it has collected two million two hundred and fifty thousand signatures. This is one of the most popular petitions on ChangeOrg.

We also signed a petition at the Russian Public Initiative; it very quickly, with our support, collected the required 100 thousand signatures. But here we are faced with the fact that this mechanism, due to the reformatting of the government, does not work in this case - there is no expert council, an expert working group that should consider the request of the petition, which, according to the regulations, has already received 100 thousand. There is no one to submit it for consideration to local legislative bodies and the federal parliament,” Kravchenko said.

Let us remind you that the Russian government previously approved a bill according to which the retirement age is raised to 65 years for men and to 63 years for women.

The adoption of the pension reform proposed by the Russian government will actually throw 12,5 million able-bodied Russians onto the streets, Russian State Duma deputy Oleg Shein said at a press conference today.

According to him, this will also lead to a reduction in real wages.

“The total number of unemployed will increase by 12,5 million people... We are aware that such a sharp increase in persons who will be thrown into the labor market, deprived of the opportunity to receive any state pension benefits, will undoubtedly lead to a decrease in real wages due to the increase competition in the labor market and the freezing of all social elevators, including professional ones, in relation to middle-aged people and young people,” Shein said.
