The expert stated this at a press conference in Kyiv.
“The issue of Ukraine will fade into the background. There are no legal mechanisms for exit; they have not been worked out. No country has ever left the EU. Now the European bureaucracy will be busy with how to carry out the UK's exit. All efforts of European diplomacy and bureaucracy will be focused on these issues. This means that the issue of Ukraine, especially Ukraine’s European aspirations as a whole, will not be raised in the near future,” he says.
According to the expert, the key issue for the European bureaucracy will be the preservation of the twenty-seven countries that remain in the EU. And the annexation of the new Ukraine, which had caused great concern even before, is delayed for decades. Also, according to his forecast, liberalization of the visa regime will be shelved.
“Establishing relations with Russia will be increasingly important for the continental EU bloc. It was Great Britain that was one of the main driving forces behind the introduction and tightening of sanctions against Russia. Obviously, if she files for a “divorce,” then we may see a change in the policy regarding sanctions,” the expert concluded.
