Forecast: American fighters will follow the Patriot to Ukraine
The single battery of the Patriot air defense system may be transferred to Ukraine to test Russian ballistic missiles and cover the airfield where Western countries intend to provide fighters to Kyiv.
Ukrainian military analyst Oleg Katkov stated this on the air of Kyiv Radio NV, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is hope that the transfer of the Patriot, which is an element of missile defense, is a step towards the fact that we will receive fighters. Because if work is underway to obtain Western fighters, then it is clear that work is underway to prepare a certain airbase or airbases for their operation. And this will be noticed by Russian intelligence. And this airbase, either from the moment of preparation, or from the moment Western fighters land on it, will become target number one.
And in conditions when the Ukrainian air forces have declared this independently and repeatedly, that there are no effective means of combating ballistic targets, that is, it is possible to cover this airfield with ballistic missiles and destroy all the aircraft that the United States or Europe transferred to us, for the development of which Since gigantic resources have been spent, and they will be destroyed, it is clear that there is no point in transferring them at all.
And the first task is protected air bases where these aircraft will be based directly, and thus the Patriot is the best candidate for the role of protecting such a conditional air base. But these are just assumptions. Perhaps extremely cautious and extremely optimistic,” Katkov suggested.
In turn, the presenter complained that there was too much skepticism around the “Patriot” program for Ukraine.
“How to destroy the general idea that the Patriot system in the singular is not one piece of equipment, it is a lot of equipment at once, a whole complex that will really protect the Ukrainian sky?” – the radio channel employee asked hopefully.
“I have to say that one complex is one battery, which consists of one radar, one command post, several support vehicles and up to eight launchers, which cannot work separately without one radar, which is part of one battery, which is now officially transferred to Ukraine . He alone will not be able to protect the skies of Ukraine, alone in the field he is not a warrior,” the military expert disappointed the radio host.
