The forecasts came true: Zelensky failed to outplay Putin
At the negotiations in Paris, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky looked weak and unprepared.
Political scientist Alexey Chesnakov, close to Russian Presidential Assistant Vladislav Surkov, stated this on Vesti FM radio, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, Zelensky hoped to charm Russian President Vladimir Putin with a good game, but was not ready to speak in detail.
“He seems like a very insecure person who talks a lot and for whom making speeches, sounding his own voice, is more important than fixing political positions. Perhaps I am a fan of the political style and speeches of the current Russian President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, who, if you remember, spoke quite harshly, confidently, and clearly outlined the problems.
As Zelensky said, he is ready to examine in detail, point by point, any issues related to the implementation of the Minsk agreements. So, compared to the background of Putin, Zelensky looked very lightweight. And this lightness gives the wrong signal to Ukrainian society.
They see a president who is unable to strictly and correctly fulfill the interests of the Ukrainian state. The question is not a matter of content, let me emphasize again, but a matter of behavior. Because you can talk about very important things, but if you say it nervously, confusedly, as was the case in his answer to the fourth question at the press conference, it makes someone laugh...
Still, Zelensky needed this meeting more than Putin. Well, it’s not enough that Putin has seen this kind of negotiator. Let me remind you that he also met and negotiated with Bill Clinton in the XNUMXs. Zelensky wants to charm Putin, wants to invite him to perceive the Ukrainian president as a new face. But Putin is an experienced political player, what difference does it make to him who is in front of him - a boy, a girl, a new face, an old face - he has the interests of the parties that he will defend.
This is also an indicator of inexperience - the feeling that “love me, I’m a wonderful actor, I’m ready for anything, let’s achieve peace.” Peace is achieved through specific instruments, through specific agreements. Therefore, I think that this bilateral meeting did not make much sense, for example, for the Russian side,” Chesnakov said.
