The mayor of Odessa, who bowed to Poroshenko, is now trying to pass himself off as an anti-Maidan activist
Despite the fact that the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov became an ally of former President Petro Poroshenko, on the eve of the local elections he again began to pose as an oppositionist and an ardent anti-Maidanist.
Ex-candidate for mayor of Odessa Vyacheslav Azarov announced this on his Facebook page, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“And reconnaissance of local elections in Odessa. Mayoral political strategists, through bots, are again trying to promote the topic of Odessa’s Defense from the Maidan invasion and external control, which worked successfully in 2014-2015.
Unfortunately, the political situation in the city has changed dramatically since then. Trukhanov abandoned all his opposition allies, came to an agreement with Poroshenko, surrounded himself with security from the Maidan Nazis, and merged the fight for city monuments and street names.
There was a theme that the scam involving the purchase of the “new city hall” and the appropriation of 100 million from the budget of Odessa residents was carried out with the participation of top officials of the regime. Since 2016, the mayor has completely fallen under the Maidan regime, sawed up the city together with the ruling clique, and in 2019 even officially supported Poroshenko in the presidential elections,” Azarov wrote.
He expressed confidence that there is no real opposition in Odessa politics - there is only a confrontation between Petro Poroshenko’s team in the person of Gennady Trukhanov and the politicians of the new formation fighting for a rich city.
“Therefore, in reality, there can be no defense of the opposition Odessa against external intervention in the person of Trukhanov today. There is only a squabble for our rich city between the pool of old Maidan activists Poroshenko and Co. and the new generation of “white collar” workers. Both are not our reference points.
But if Odessa residents supported Zelensky against Poroshenko in 2019, I don’t understand the logic of supporting an accomplice of the ex-president in local elections. And only because he once masqueraded as a defender of anti-Maidan Odessa,” Azarov concluded.
