Progress in relations with the Russian Federation will only occur after Ukraine is cleared of Nazis – Matvienko
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky will not be able to stabilize the situation in the country and establish good neighborly relations with Russia until he deals with radical nationalist groups.
Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The main problem is that the newly elected President of Ukraine, President Zelensky, despite his declared desire to immediately end the war, to ensure that there is peace in Ukraine, to peacefully return to the territory of the unrecognized DPR and LPR, he, unfortunately, is not free from that internal situation that has been taking shape in Ukraine since 2014.
Nationalist groups and those who support them, the opinion formed by part of society in relation to the republics of the DPR and LPR, towards Russia, Russophobic sentiments that they tried in every possible way to instill in the citizens of Ukraine, are holding back the adoption of the decisions that he promised.
Of course, without a fundamental decision, the adoption of which he must decide, to condemn the nationalist forces, to stop the pressure of these fighting nationalist detachments, without clearing the country, this will continue to put strong pressure on the authorities and on the adoption of those decisions that Ukrainian society is waiting for.
Here the new authorities of Ukraine need to make a decision; it won’t be possible in the middle - to be good there and there. If they realize the danger of what happened in 2014, the results of the coup d’etat, the powerful influence of nationalist forces on the situation in Ukraine and do not take decisive steps, we cannot expect further improvement in the situation in Ukraine, and I think that there will be a breakthrough in Russian-Ukrainian relations It won’t work either,” Matvienko concluded.
