The machinations of Latvia and Ukraine against Crimea were unsuccessful
Latvia and Ukraine tried to prevent Crimean journalists from participating in the OSCE conference on media freedom.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing today, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to her, the first problems for the Crimean delegation arose at the airport in Riga, where the journalists had a transfer to Warsaw.
“They were not allowed on board the AirBaltic company, citing the fact that the issued Polish visa allowed only a direct flight. This is something new in visa policy. We are now trying to find out whether there were any political motives in the actions of the company's employees. The journalists changed their tickets and arrived,” said Zakharova.
At the conference itself, according to Zakharova, the Ukrainian delegation constantly tried to create problems for the Crimeans. They turned off the microphone and tried to talk over them.
“After another attack from the Ukrainian delegation, the moderator of the plenary session did not give the floor to the head of the Crimean Tatar TV channel “Millet” and the representative of the Public Chamber of Crimea. A demarche by the Russian side followed. This had an effect and the rest of the Crimeans set out unhindered. But the battles to get them to speak were serious,” Zakharova said.
According to her, the Italian OSCE chairmanship helped to largely resolve issues with the participation of Crimeans in the conference.
“The degree of hypocrisy in the West is amazing. There, for so many years they lamented the violation of human rights in the “occupied” Crimea, and when the opportunity arose to get first-hand information and communicate with people from the “occupation zone,” they did everything to deprive them of their word,” Zakharova concluded.
