The head of the executive committee of the National Meat Association, Sergei Yushin, announced this today at a press conference in Moscow.
“Russia in the WTO has more obstacles in the product market than countries that joined it earlier. It is still one of the most liberal countries regarding imports,” Yushin said.
According to him, Russia has the lowest duties on meat imports: zero duty on pork, 15% on beef and 25% on poultry. At the same time, Turkey imposes a 225% duty on beef, Norway has set a duty on steaks of 344%, on poultry - 101%, Countries with low duties introduce additional veterinary barriers.
“The fact that the share of imports in our market is declining indicates a real increase in the competitiveness of our products. But we must change the conditions for joining the WTO. Russia has the right to protect its market,” Yushin is confident.
