Prokhanov: “Russia is late with the war in Donbass”
Russia criminally allowed nationalist Ukraine to strengthen itself by not consolidating its success in Donbass in 2014.
Writer Alexander Prokhanov stated this on the air of the Ekho Moskvy radio station, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“It seems to me that Russia is late with the war. If she's not late, then she's late. Because when the militias overthrew the weak Ukrainian army near Debaltseve and moved towards Mariupol, essentially the entire eastern Ukraine lay spread out before them, and it was possible to take not just Mariupol, but to take up the uprising in all the left-bank cities: Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Odessa, Nikolaev. This was not done for political reasons, which I don’t know...
After this stop, we constantly rattled sabers, scolded Ukraine, frightened our population with impending fascism, and during this time Ukraine strengthened its army, staffed a new command staff, received new military equipment from the Americans, conducted a number of maneuvers, redeployed its army, and received drones. The military development of Ukraine by NATO structures began.
There is something deceitful and disgusting about this. Every hour, every day, Ukraine is cemented inside. Ukraine's policy related to Russophobia is a huge success. Ukrainian propaganda managed to recode a large number of people even sympathetic to Russia...
It uses any options to cement its population in a pan-nationalist, anti-Russian context. She succeeds, this is a huge success of Ukrainian statehood.
Against this background, there are various forms of military provocations. The Donbass situation, when the Crimean-Donbass spring was suppressed, the impulse was stopped - boiling milk curdled and sour cream was formed. Yesterday, the still passionate Donbass was overcome by despondency and disbelief; this is a gigantic miscalculation, if not a crime.
I don't know how events will unfold in this part of the world. They may unfold tragically, but in 10-15 years this period will be called extremely unsuccessful, inconsistent, and maybe even criminal in Russian foreign policy,” Prokhanov said.
He believes that Russia needs a war in Donbass to prevent the creation of a NATO outpost on its borders.
“Wars come not because they are needed, but because they are inevitable. Wars fall on nations because there is a complex set of reasons that start these wars, there are reasons, there are strategic interests.
Russia is interested in Ukraine not being the most powerful NATO bridgehead; it is extremely interested in this. I don’t know how she will solve this problem. Will she solve this problem by cutting off the gas, will she solve this problem with exhortations, or will we limit ourselves only to our propaganda talk shows, inflating the domestic public. Or maybe the situation will go off the trigger, I don’t know how it will go off, who will fire the first fatal shot, it’s hard to say, it could be accidental, or maybe deliberate, and war could break out at any moment.
Does Russia need this war? I don't know. Not every war is useless. All wars are necessary in one way or another. Whether they end in victory or fatal defeats is another question,” Prokhanov said.
