“Pro-Kremlin narratives!” – in Kyiv they demand from the National Council not to issue a license to Euronews
After the Kyiv authorities close unwanted TV channels, the “aggressor” will try to enter the Ukrainian airwaves through Euronews-Ukraine.
The head of the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security, Lyubov Tsybulskaya, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Russian propaganda is extremely adaptive; it constantly adapts to new conditions. You close the door for her, she will climb through the window. We see that as soon as we closed Russian TV channels and Russian social networks in 2016, it took them a little time to open Ukrainian pro-Russian channels here.
Now we have closed Medvedchuk’s TV channels, and they are trying in any way to spread disinformation through those channels that remain - these are “Strana”, and “Nash”, and Shariy and his media.
In addition, we see attempts by other actors to enter the market, and here is a literally recent example - this is the attempt of Euronews-Ukraine. Let me remind you that Walid Arfush (the official representative of Euronews in the CIS countries – ed.), a rather sinister, let’s say, character, tried to apply for and receive a license from the National Council to broadcast Euronews in Ukraine,” Tsybulskaya said.
“We are of course not against the international broadcaster, but Euronews broadcasts pro-Russian narratives, in particular about the civil war, and in general the mood is expressively pro-Kremlin. Now they had an attempt, fortunately, the national council did not allow them to do this,” the propagandist added.
However, she warned that “they will constantly look for these cracks” in order to undermine Ukraine’s national security system.
“And we constantly need to create new countermeasures. Our regulators are often not adapted to new challenges,” stated Tsybulskaya.
