Prosecutors want to put Avakov's son under arrest
The prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine (SAP) Vasily Krichun explained the reasons for filing an appeal against the court's decision to choose a preventive measure for the son of the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov, Alexander Avakov, who is involved in the “backpack case,” reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

The prosecutor stated this to the Ukrinform publication.
“This is not a change of position; simply after reading the ruling of the investigating judge more carefully, we came to the conclusion that there are grounds for an appeal. Indeed, when the court chooses a preventive measure in the form of a personal commitment, the preventive measure is not contested. But the court refused to choose a preventive measure in the form of detention, and the denial of detention is being challenged on appeal,” Krichun noted.
The prosecutor added that the prosecution will insist on choosing a preventive measure for Alexander Avakov in the form of detention with the possibility of posting a bail of 5 million UAH.
In turn, Avakov Jr.’s lawyer Andrei Fedur considers the appeal of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office against the preventive measure to be unfounded.
“The appeal, in my opinion, is completely unfounded and, from my point of view, cannot be satisfied. Although, I would probably agree that the prosecutor’s appeal be partially satisfied: that the decision of the investigating judge be canceled, and the Court of Appeal make a decision where it would refuse to select a preventive measure, since there are no legal grounds for this,” said Fedur.
Let us remind you that on October 31, NABU detained Alexander Avakov, ex-Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Sergei Chebotar and the head of the IT company “Turboseo” Vladimir Lytvyn as part of an investigation into the case of embezzlement of 14 million UAH in the purchase of backpacks for the National Guard.
