The guest of honor at the event was President Petro Poroshenko, who arrived in Odessa immediately after the land parade in Kyiv. Due to a strong storm and heavy rain, however, the program had to be curtailed.
In particular, air flights, parachutist landings and other preparations were cancelled.
Let us note that in his speech Poroshenko called Odessa the “sea capital” and also thanked the Odessa residents for May 2, saying that “militants and separatists” were trying to unleash the Donbass scenario here.
According to eyewitnesses, despite the promised scale and entertainment, the parade of the Ukrainian Navy did not attract a large number of spectators. Four hundred people gathered to look at the Navy ships.
As Navigator reported, during a military parade in Kiev, Poroshenko said that in Ukraine, Defender of the Fatherland Day will no longer be celebrated on February 23 - “according to the military-historical calendar of another state.”
