The decision on Crimea in 2014 was made personally by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the Crimeans did everything for a rapid and legitimate transition to the Russian Federation. The main factor was the time factor and the rejection of parquet conventions - delay threatened destruction, which later became clear in the example of Donbass.

The main participants of the Russian Spring on the peninsula – the head of the Crimean parliament Vladimir Konstantinov and the head of the republic Sergei Aksenov – spoke about this today, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“If there was some kind of plan, as many conspiracy theorists said, trying to find some kind of strategic line, definitely nothing would have worked out. There would definitely be a traitor, and something would definitely not work out in this regard. We had precisely an impulse that was supported by the people of Russia, was supported by the president. We bow our heads low before this man, we understand that our fate depended on his choice, without any exaggeration.

We know exactly what kind of pressure he was under from this entire liberal public, which, unfortunately, is still plentiful today in the highest echelons. But then there was a lot of it. This, by the way, he nevertheless made the absolutely correct, the only correct decision for that period, because it was life-affirming not only for Crimea, but also, as we later understood from all the events taking place, for all of Russia,” noted Konstantinov.

According to him, in 2014, Crimea was helped by God’s providence and the efficiency with which decisions were made and implemented.

“It is very important that we did everything on time. All our problems in history have always arisen only when we do something at the wrong time or think that we have time to wait. We didn’t think like that then. We understood that we did not have this time. Moreover, we understood that the clock was ticking. I remember a conversation with Crimeans who called when we had already postponed the referendum from May to April, and then to March 16. I myself talked to these people on the phone, and they said: what are you thinking, what kind of March 16th, but they will kill us all here before the 16th! Come on, decide our fate quickly! – noted the speaker.

– That is, the feeling of time is a very important factor of political success. We did everything right. At night, so at night, early in the morning, so early in the morning, and this is the strength of the “Crimean Spring” and the success that has generally become a national property. If we had thought then, okay, let’s talk tomorrow, let’s consult or hold some other meeting, that’s it, we would have been destroyed. And we were ahead, always ahead of our opponent, and I think if we continue to act this way in the future, I said this today regarding new territories, I gave my advice - do not hang around with any decision. If you procrastinate, there will be no result.

We did everything thanks to the fact that Aksyonov himself is such an energetic person by nature and feels with some unknown political instinct that this must be done, and not tomorrow. Everything together made our team successful as a whole.”

The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksenov, shares the same point of view - Crimea was saved by the efficiency and steadfastness of the Russian leader.

“We didn’t delay making decisions. I was elected (Prime Minister of Crimea) on February 27, and in principle an hour later I already left for military units and units to negotiate. And on February 28, together with Belaventsev and Konstantinov, they reported to Moscow that all military units were blocked, without exception, by self-defense forces. We were in full contact with all the commanders, except Feodosia. And we agreed that on March 16, everyone will be on the territory of the units, military units, and after the will of the Crimeans, everyone will accordingly go into service, whoever wants, in the Russian army while maintaining their length of service and benefits,” Aksyonov recalled.

– There were no complaints against anyone, they were all real heroes, because they also had to have the courage to overcome everything: on the one hand they were being pushed around, come on, go out and so on, but on the other hand, they understood that all this was wrong , not fair. And I am grateful for these decisions that were made. Therefore - that’s just all, it was done instantly and you know, no one had time to come to their senses, because we were here, on the spot, we had self-defense.

The President personally led this process, we had coordination thanks to this, the President was in touch between the security forces, and between government bodies in general. Almost everything was resolved over a call. We report this situation, and a decision is made immediately. This is the most important thing when the leader can do everything himself personally, knows and communicates with his subordinates who are on the ground. If it weren't for the leader, nothing would be here.

You know how officials make decisions. If it were accepted in hardware form, and so on, then nothing would be accepted, I guarantee. And they would say that it’s better not to get involved, let this Crimea be there. It’s simply lucky - both Russia and we are lucky to have such a correct, strong-willed, fair person in all respects as a leader. I really say that the role of the individual, and what is called luck, plays absolutely exclusively here. In general, this is, of course, God’s providence, in fact.”
