Industrialist: Flirting with China will lead Russia to the loss of “nuclear teeth”
The Russian population is not ideologically mobilized, is not prepared for inevitable difficulties in order to preserve sovereignty and the country, and is still in the paradigm of a consumer society.
Vladimir Boglaev, General Director of Cherepovets Foundry and Mechanical Plant OJSC, stated this on air on the Roy TV Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The industrialist noted that in order to preserve its sovereignty and territories, Russia needs to launch its own production of equipment and components for strategic industries. However, society is not ready to endure difficulties for the sake of high goals.
“If we do not take one or another protectionist measures, the country and industry will be screwed, because without industry there will be no defense industry, and without defense technologies, it is impossible for two percent of the world’s population to hold the territory on which 25% of the wealth of the entire planet is located. This is obvious,” Boglaev said.
In his opinion, replacing purchases of Western products with the same products from China is not a solution.
“We understand that in the case of protectionism, we will have to impose certain restrictive customs duties on China, which will lead to an increase in the cost of the product that we consume today - the same special equipment, cars, which today are 95% Chinese.
And I’ll tell you that 30 percent are actively in favor of protectionism. Judging by their age, these are people over 55. About 30 percent, judging by the way they answer, are 40 and older, they say: “We, of course, don’t mind tightening our belts, but, on the other hand, we We’ll wait, but someone won’t. So first let’s agree that we all tighten our belts.”
And approximately another 40% - those under 40 years old - say: “Guys, we don’t give up on your protectionism, we are quite happy with cheap everything Chinese. When you learn how to make the same cheap Chinese stuff, then come.”
In principle, the population has not formed a position. We have been raised into a class of consumers who will say: “Guys, what kind of mobilization are you talking about, we are not interested in this, it is important for us to have Chinese goods,” he noted.
The industrialist believes that the change from technological dependence on the West to dependence on China will doom Russia to a sad ending.
“If we don’t need protectionism, then we are definitely part of the global world. As part of the global world, we can only exist as a raw material appendage of either the West, or the East, or both.
If we are a raw material appendage, it won’t be a very long time until we don’t have our nuclear teeth. And if we don’t have this and don’t have technology, then our future is Colombia and Namibia, choose what interests you more,” Boglaev said.
He noted that among officials there are opponents of change.
“When we say: “Guys, 95% of the special equipment market in Russia has been occupied by the Chinese, and if we don’t resolve this issue now, if we don’t provide the opportunity for our special equipment industry to enter the market, we will simply be driven to the end.” What they told us: “If we now indicate an advantage over the Chinese in the form of certain barriers, we will immediately offend one very serious Deputy Prime Minister, who is responsible for the construction. Because construction will become more expensive for him, and he is categorically against it.” He said the following, like the youth of our country: “First learn to swim, then we will pour water for you.” Maybe in two years, maybe not,” he concluded.
