Pro-Russian sentiments in Ukraine remain, despite propaganda and repression
Even in the current situation, 15-20% of Ukrainian citizens openly declare that they support an alliance with Russia and recognize the referendum in Crimea. This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Ilk Kucheriv Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the sociological service of the Razumkov Center.

“...There still remains a fairly large group of people who continue to believe in the Customs Union, who even believe that Crimea should be separate from Ukraine,” Alexey Garan, scientific director of the foundation, comments on the survey results.
According to them, 15% of Ukrainian citizens believe that they can make any compromises with Russia and agree to its terms regarding Crimea and Donbass. “15% is almost every sixth,” Garan emphasized.
20% of respondents believe that Crimea should not return to Ukraine.
"This is problem. Yes, the NATO referendum is won by a large margin. But if we translate the issue into a practical plane, then the mobilization of anti-NATO supporters begins. We imagine how some Ukrainian channels are starting to operate, which enjoy freedom of speech and will reflect Russian propaganda. And as a result, this referendum in the east and south may not be as convincing as we would like,” Alexei Garan shared his concerns.
