“With Iliana Yotova elected Vice President, we defend a clear position: Bulgaria is a loyal member of NATO and the European Union. Historically and culturally, Bulgaria has always been European. She chose a stable and long-term path of pro-European development. We will not deviate from it. We want to establish the country as NATO’s most reliable partner,” Radev said.
All this, according to the Bulgarian president, does not mean that Bulgaria should become an enemy of Russia.
“We have important economic interests with Russia. Sanctions are not a solution to problems. They harm not only Russia, but also the EU. For strong economies they are not a problem, but for weak economies such as Bulgaria they are a problem. They directly harm agriculture. Bulgarian companies are closing, people are losing their jobs,” the Bulgarian president emphasized.
