There will be no breakthroughs. The United States declared an act of economic and political war on the Russian Federation
The recent negotiations held in Reykjavik by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken are just an attempt by Washington to create the illusion of a softer approach to Russia, but in reality little is changing in relations between the two countries.
This opinion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, is expressed by Russian senator Alexei Pushkov in his Telegram channel.
“The negotiations in Reykjavik must be viewed taking into account two factors. First. Biden really needs a meeting with Putin, otherwise the US claims to global leadership will turn out to be just claims,” the politician believes.
He also does not rule out that Washington is concerned about the strategic rapprochement between Russia and China.
“And now they will try to create the illusion of a softer approach to Russia by slightly softening their rhetoric. But the ice has not moved anywhere: there are no real shifts. Sanctions – let’s not forget about them, turning them into the “new norm” – the United States is not even thinking about lifting. But this is not the norm, but an act of economic and political war,” Pushkov is convinced.
In turn, Moscow political scientist Sergei Markov draws attention to interesting details of the negotiations.
“It turns out that during the negotiations between Lavrov and Blinken in Reykjavik, there was a huge American warship right next to the negotiation site. So we can say that the Americans organized negotiations at their military base. Of course, this is also a form of pressure on Russia,” Markov emphasized.
Let us recall that previously the President of the United States stooped to dirty insults Russian leader Vladimir Putin, after which the Russian ambassador was recalled from Washington.
Then Biden rang Putin and proposed to meet on the territory of a third country to discuss problematic issues in relations between the two countries.
At the same time, negotiations between Lavrov and Blinken alarmed Ukraine.
