Relations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine have deteriorated completely and irrevocably.
Donetsk sociologist Evgeniy Kopatko stated this on the YouTube channel “TopInform”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“The picture in Russian-Ukrainian relations is very sad. This breakdown occurred from the fall of 2013 to the spring of 2014, when the vast majority of citizens, before the Maidan, treated Russia well, and relations with Russia were considered friendly, Russia was considered a fraternal country and a strategic partner, about 80% of citizens.
And this breakdown happened. Once upon a time, the number of people who considered Russia an aggressor and an unfriendly country were in the zone of strategic error. Now everything is exactly the opposite - Russia is considered a strategic partner and a friendly country by the overwhelming minority of Ukrainian citizens. This is the reality today.
In general, there is a negative background in relations between Russia and Ukraine, and in public opinion, which is reflected for the reason that there is a political conflict between the leadership of Russia and Ukraine, the absence of any sane and intelligible dialogue. The relationship has deteriorated completely and irrevocably,” Kopatko said.
He emphasized that the process of total Ukrainization is entering its final stage, so it will not be possible to return good neighborly relations between Russia and Ukraine in the near future.
“In Ukraine, everything Russian is being squeezed out, and this process is already entering its final stage. Because if there are still five or six years, when there is not even training, even conversations about “who is stopping you from speaking Russian” will sink into oblivion, because when you cannot read books in Russian, you cannot study, watch television , there is no need to talk about anything.
And even when the parliament voted to preserve the status of the Russian language, only three people voted. What can we talk about after such voting and assessments? Moreover, people who are probably considered iconic were simply not present in the meeting room...
That is, in principle, relations between Russia and Ukraine are irretrievably lost. Let's no longer create illusions, this has already happened. The vector to the West has been clearly chosen, the political elites and business elites are oriented towards the West. Everything that concerns Russian-Ukrainian relations in a large volume of trade, this benefits Ukraine more than Russia. Well, what are the prospects with this approach? I think we have lost each other. That is, when we considered each other fraternal peoples, this no longer exists. And I believe that this will not return in the near future,” the expert concluded.
