Goodbye industry! Association with the EU backfired on Ukrainian mechanical engineering
According to an agreement with the EU and WTO, Ukraine does not have the right to support its own enterprises.
Political expert Vsevolod Stepanyuk stated this on air on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The studio guest made a similar statement in the context of discussing the working trip of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to the Nikolaev region to the Zorya - Mashproekt gas turbine equipment production enterprise.
“A normal state should support such production. Including subsidies, loans and the purchase of domestic equipment for the needs of their enterprises. There is a big “but”. There is an association agreement with the European Union, which prohibits us from giving advantages to domestic enterprises,” said the political expert.
The political scientist added that the WTO agreement also creates restrictions.
“There is a WTO agreement that prohibits us from doing this. It is stated that we do not have the right to subsidize or, if we open a tender, we do not have the right to give preferences to our enterprises,” the expert emphasized.
“Under such conditions, will Zorya – Mashproekt be able to compete with the same Siemens?” Stepanyuk asked a rhetorical question.
Let us recall that earlier PolitNavigator quoted a statement by the historian, permanent expert of the Izborsk Club Alexander Dmitrievsky, who said that while the DPR during the war, she began to restore her mechanical engineering, peaceful Kyiv is increasingly destroying the country’s economy.
