Biden's farewell visit will harm Ukraine
The visit of outgoing US Vice President Biden to Kyiv in a few days will not help improve relations between Poroshenko and Trump.

This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv by the head of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik, who noted that it is still difficult to talk about what Trump’s relations with Ukraine will be.
“It is obvious that they will not start with a plus, but with a deep minus. The man who was applauded 24 times in Congress, this time even didn't receive an invitation for the inauguration. I mean the President of Ukraine. Moreover: Biden’s current visit is generally something of a Trojan horse. Today, it seems to me, this visit plays against the establishment of potential relations between Poroshenko and Trump, since this visit once again emphasizes that Poroshenko is “other people’s guy.” This will further undermine Poroshenko’s chances for a normal, high-quality dialogue with the new administration,” the political scientist said.
“Today I would like to talk about how Biden will come to reassure our government, tell us how to work with the new administration, and convey some important contacts. But it seems to me that this is not why he comes. He is going to probably set up some kind of sequestration and balance the debit with the credit. Moreover, we see that recently the affairs of the company of Zlochevsky and Biden’s son have improved. One gets the impression that Biden is simply summing up the results of his work, and the visit itself, by and large, is not needed by Ukraine or the Ukrainian authorities today and, to some extent, is even harmful,” the expert concluded.
