“They do not hold weapons in their hands, but are constantly in the line of fire, come under fire, and consider their mission no less important than military operations,” with these words the Kiev magazine “Correspondent” prefaces its material on prostitution in the ATO zone.

“Before the war, I couldn’t even think that I would go to the panel,” one of the heroines of the publication, Vitka from Debaltseve, told the publication, when the city was still controlled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. “And now there’s nothing to lose—it’s better to die from a mine under a man than to die from it somewhere in poverty in a basement.”

“More than a year has passed since then,” the magazine continues. – Debaltsevo was occupied by separatists, the ATO forces camp has not been there for a long time. But women like Vitka remained there. They circle around the front line, sell their services to the military and joke among themselves about the oldest profession: they say, everyone helps the army as best they can.”

However, the prostitute did not want to leave with the Ukrainian Armed Forces after the retreat from Debaltsevo, but promised to wait.

“According to the military who used her services, during the winter cauldron, when the Ukrainian position abandoned positions in the town and around it, Vitka decided to remain in the destroyed fiefdom,” the magazine reports. “True, she promised not to work with the separatists and really look forward to Ukraine becoming united again.”

Another heroine of the publication stands for a united Ukraine - a prostitute from Avdeevka nicknamed “Baby”.

“I think this: just do your job with honor, and then everything will change for the better,” she believes. “Perhaps, under other circumstances, I would not have gone into the profession, but there is no turning back. I pray for the integrity of Ukraine and do everything possible so that the guys here don’t drink themselves to death or go crazy, but return safely to their families.”
