“We’ll just rewrite the law” - Ze-political scientist explained how to hold elections during a war
No laws will become an obstacle for Ukrainian politicians if the issue concerns the division of power.
Kiev political scientist Vladimir Fesenko, who serves the interests of the office of the President of Ukraine, stated this on the air of the Now channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is a law on martial law, it prohibits the holding of any elections. But theoretically, if there is such a need, if public opinion leans towards supporting the idea of elections, even during a war, then the law on martial law will have to be changed and elections will be held,” Fesenko said.
He emphasized that “popular opinion” surprisingly closely coincides with the interests of the country’s leadership.
“Today, the situation is such that the absolute majority of Ukrainians are against holding elections during the war.
Therefore, today's Verkhovna Rada causes a lot of criticism and reproaches. But the institution of mono-majority is the result of the 2019 elections. According to my forecasts, after the end of the war or parliamentary elections, we will not have a mono-majority. Then there will be a coalition,” the political scientist added.
