Ordinary participants in the Russian Spring began to celebrate the anniversary of the uprising without Chaly and Ovsyannikov
Several thousand people took part in the celebration of the third anniversary of the beginning of the Russian Spring this morning in Sevastopol.
It was on February 23, 2014 that more than 30 thousand citizens gathered on Nakhimov Square, declaring that the city was no longer subordinate to Kyiv and elected a “people’s mayor” Alexei Chaly. Less than a month later, a referendum was held in Crimea, and the peninsula was reunited with Russia.

Today, city self-defense participants and ordinary citizens marched from the monument to Catherine the Second to Nakhimov Square, where they laid flowers and wreaths at the Eternal Flame.
At the meeting that took place later, the government and the city legislative assembly were represented by deputy chairmen - Vyacheslav Gladkov and Alexander Kulagin. Neither the acting governor Dmitry Ovsyannikov nor the leader of the Russian Spring Alexey Chaly came.
(It is expected that the Acting Governor and Black Sea Fleet Commander Alexander Vitko will address the townspeople this afternoon at an official meeting dedicated to Defender of the Fatherland Day).
All speakers noted the special unity that the residents of Sevastopol felt three years ago and called on them to preserve it. A minute of silence was held to honor the memory of those who died fighting for the Donbass republics.
After the meeting ended, field kitchens began to operate on the square, and a visit to the ships of the Black Sea Fleet was organized at the Mine Wall.
