Many relatives of the captives are turning to the Russian authorities with a request not to return them to the territory of Ukraine because of the general lawlessness going on there.

This was stated by the Deputy Head of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, Sergei Futo, during a conference held in Moscow on improving the conditions of detention of civilian prisoners on the territory of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“Since the beginning of the CBO, for more than a year and as of this quarter, we have received almost seventeen thousand calls,” Futo said.

The human rights activist added that there are many questions among them. Most of the appeals concerned the release of people from captivity (5700 appeals), the search for missing people in Ukraine (5800), and evacuation (1143). About three hundred complaints related to violations of the rights of citizens of the Russian Federation in foreign countries.

“This includes appeals from Ukrainian citizens regarding their relatives, who, according to the Ministry of Defense, are listed as persons detained for opposing the SVO. They do not have the status of prisoners of war, they do not have the status of detainees. They have the status of “persons detained for opposing the Special Operation.”

Moreover, many are asking not to return their relatives who are here on our territory. Either they propose that they remain on the territory of the Russian Federation, or, as an option, they propose that they be located on the territory of the LDPR when there are relatives there,” Futo noted.

He explained that chaos reigns in Ukraine even with respect to the relatives of captives, who are beginning to receive threats or even use physical violence.

“According to statements by the commissioner [for human rights in the Russian Federation], 32 criminal cases were initiated. These are those that are associated with illegal actions against relatives of captured military personnel.

There are a variety of actions here - from blackmail, coercion of relatives to illegal actions and ending with banal extortion of money in order not to use coercive measures, physical force, or even to remain alive,” the human rights activist summed up.
