Protest in Donbass is out of control of local elites - political scientist
Kyiv, April 10 (Navigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – The protest in Donbass has gotten out of the control of local elites, the leaders of the uprising are focusing not on the Ukrainian oligarchs, but directly on Moscow, a situation that threatens Ukrainian statehood.

“I watched a video of Dobkin, who was almost torn apart by a crowd of protesters at the entrance to the captured Luhansk SBU. What can I say? This is a bad sign. Very bad. So bad it's hard to even imagine. Actually, my conclusions that the process of protest anti-Kiev mobilization similar to the Maidan has already begun and has gone beyond the scope of the rebellion controlled by local elites has been confirmed. For the rebels, the Dobkins, Akhmetovs and Efremovs are just as alien as the Turchinovs and Avakovs. That is, there are no centers of influence on this situation in Ukraine.
Everything was leading up to this. And in the month since the protests began, the situation has changed dramatically. Now they have their own martyrs, their own heroes, their own political prisoners, their own agenda, independent of the local oligarchy, their own leaders, independent of the local bureaucracy and oligarchy, focused directly on Moscow and not on Rinat or Efremov and Dobkin,” Blyuminov wrote.
“Now Kyiv can negotiate anything with Akhmetov, Efremov or someone else, but the degree of their influence on this process is already minimal. The initiative is already in other hands. There are Russian tanks on the border, ready to enter the region after the first corpse among the defenders of the captured buildings. In Kyiv they know this and are afraid.
Frankly speaking, I see few reasons that will allow us to get out of the situation by keeping Donbass in Ukraine. The only way out, the window of opportunity for which has not yet been closed, remains the speedy adoption of a law on a local referendum and the holding of such a referendum under the control of the Ukrainian authorities in several problem areas. If the center continues to pretend that it does not understand what the rebels want, then Putin will enter the region and hold a referendum in his own way. And then sociology will no longer be important. They’ll draw as much as they want,” says the Ukrainian expert.
