Let us recall that in messages sent out on social networks it was reported that in the main square of the republic “an expression of distrust of the Crimean repainted authorities, which betrayed the people of Crimea, will take place.”
According to a Politnavigator correspondent, by 8.00 a couple of hundred self-defense representatives had gathered on the square and a formation took place. However, when three arriving news agency reporters—federal and Crimean TV channels ignored the action—started filming what was happening, they were harshly asked to leave the square.
The journalists were indignant, then a man in civilian clothes approached them, introducing himself as a representative of the self-defense headquarters, Dmitry Prostakov. He made it clear that the declared protest was the work of ill-wishers.
When asked whether self-defense fighters receive salaries, he answered in the negative.
“What salary? For five months they have been fighting for “thank you.” There is no salary, and there cannot be. Neither I nor they have work records. And it wasn't. And they are not self-defense, they are the people’s militia of Crimea. Unfortunately, today, within the framework of Russian laws, it is not possible to create a salary for a combatant. Neither municipal, nor federal – none,” Prostakov noted.
He was reminded that a law on the people's militia had been adopted, a resolution had been adopted on the allocation of funds, the amount mentioned was 400 million rubles by the end of the year.
“The fact is that the federal law cannot contradict the local one, but the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation states that we cannot, this is a violation of the law, that’s all. Some people decided to play on this. We understand all this, because we fought for our Motherland - without pay. These are the defenders of their Motherland, you see, they came with the banner of the Russian Federation. This is in defiance of those who created all the situations... And from the outside, they tried to find some kind of conversation, to create conditions for some kind of discontent. We decided not to do this. They’ll say, look, look, they’re up to PR... It’s just ordinary work, everyday, ordinary work,” the self-defense representative emphasized.
“There’s no way we’ll separate already. Today, militia is already a state of mind. And you won’t be able to disband, even if there is an official order...”, he added.
“Today,” Prostakov noted, answering the question of payment for the self-defense service, “the question should not be posed this way; today they are looking for new forms. If it didn’t happen this way, it will happen differently. The question is how to properly employ people, without violating the laws of the Russian Federation and local laws, so that the work of the fighters is financially rewarded, and they are legally employed. This issue will be resolved, not today, then tomorrow, they are doing this at all levels.”
According to a representative of the headquarters, today there are up to a thousand people in the people’s militia, “only those who can and want to do this remain.”
