People at the rally began to look around nervously, trying to figure out where the shots were coming from, but the police remained calm.
It soon became clear that the sounds of shots were from cannons that fired salutes on the occasion of the arrival of the President of Malta in Kyiv.
Interestingly, his welcoming ceremony took place in the Poroshenko administration, located a few hundred meters from the Verkhovna Rada. But the guns, as if on purpose, were placed much closer to the parliament.
“These cannons are intended for fireworks in honor of the arrival of the President of Malta. Although I have never noticed before that saluting people were placed so close to government buildings. And not all presidents are congratulated this way... But everything happens sometime... and the stick shoots once a year,” commented Vera Savchenko, sister of the notorious Ukrainian heroine Nadezhda Savchenko.
