Public protests forced Aksenov to close the quarry near Koktebel
The head of Crimea, Sergei Aksyonov, after public protests, was forced to announce the cessation of work at a quarry near a natural monument - the extinct Karadag volcano near the resort village of Koktebel.

On the eve Residents of Koktebel recorded an appeal to President Vladimir Putin with a demand to find justice for the former Ukrainian officials-turnovers who had lobbied for the operation of the quarry who retained their posts.
The photographs of the quarry clearly show that the hazardous production has already caused irreparable harm to the environment, but an inexplicable reason forced Crimean officials to turn a blind eye to it.
Aksenov himself recently stated that “from the point of view of the raw material base, Crimea needs to develop a quarry.”
Today, after a series of high-profile corruption scandals in the leadership of Crimea, Aksyonov announced the cessation of the quarry.
“Together with the contractors who planned to develop the quarry, we will look for alternative options. Potential users will be offered other sites for the extraction of construction materials. The issue with the Karadag Nature Reserve is closed forever,” Aksyonov assured.
