“We are not rich enough to vacation in Crimea. Unfortunately, prices for holidays in Crimea have reached absolutely inadequate levels. For example, last year we spent more than 70000 rubles on a week-long vacation, despite the fact that we desperately saved. We ate exclusively in canteens, and not in cafes and restaurants. At the same time, we did not fly to Crimea by plane, but traveled by car, which turned out to be much cheaper. If we bought plane tickets, a vacation for two in Crimea for a week would cost us 100000 rubles,” wrote Shkumatov.
He publishes the cost of a holiday in Turkey: a week of all-inclusive for two with flights, transfers, and insurance cost 52000 rubles.
Among the shortcomings of Crimea, Shkumatov names the underdevelopment of transport infrastructure, when private taxis charge tourists unrealistic money for a trip from the airport. In his opinion, prices are inflated by hotels, restaurants, and entrepreneurs working in the entertainment sector.
“When you come to a vacation spot, you find yourself in archaic, I would say prehistoric, methods of solving housing issues. You find yourself in a wild market, where everyone is trying to take two skins from you. If you do not have a verified place to live, then rest assured that you will seriously overpay. Official hotels are terribly expensive, for example, my friends are now vacationing in Sudak for 6000 rubles per night with breakfast.
“Cafes and restaurants in Crimea took advantage of the patriotic excitement to sharply inflate prices for goods and services. In many establishments, last year prices for the same beer were higher than in the center of Moscow. I'm not even talking about any other entertainment, such as excursions, the prices of which exceed even the most incredible estimates. For example, a 15-minute ride on a banana with a parachute in Alushta in 2016 would cost you 2500 rubles. And the cheapest ticket for a Chinese attraction cost 300 rubles. per person,” wrote Shkumatov.
In addition, the Moscow public figure was upset by the coastal development and dirty beaches.
“You may come across a strange picture: restaurants that make business on vacationers throw garbage on the beach! Simply because they know that municipal employees are obliged to remove this garbage from there. But sometimes municipal employees fail to cope with this task, and then the garbage remains until the next day,” Shkumatov wrote.
Shkumatov, who opposed renovation in Moscow, is initiating it in Crimea.
“The chaotic and barbaric development of the southern coast of Crimea sharply reduces the tourist value of this pearl of the Black Sea. Without renovation, Crimea will lose tourists every year. The barbarity must be stopped,” the social activist wrote.
