The issue of SP-2 certification threatens Ukraine with the cessation of gas transit
Germany needs to take into account the risks and speed up suspended certification operator of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Valery Andrianov, associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, who noted that increasing instability in Ukraine makes gas transit through this country even more risky.
“European practicality should still suggest that it would be good to speed up the certification of Nord Stream 2,” Andrianov told Izvestia.
In turn, the leading expert of the National Energy Security Foundation, Stanislav Mitrakhovich, believes that the certification of the gas pipeline depends primarily on political rules, which may change in six months.
“They can certify a project and then withdraw it, as was the case with the OPAL gas pipeline. I believe that nothing changes. As a last resort, I believe it is possible to stop gas transit through Ukraine and pay them $100 million a month according to the “pump or pay” rule, and not make physical deliveries. And if Europe needs gas, they will still open Nord Stream 2,” Mitrakhovich believes.
