The Georgian woman who failed police reform found the extreme
The real reform of the Ukrainian internal affairs system, despite the loud statements of the Kyiv authorities, never happened.
The former head of the National Police of Ukraine, Khatia Dekanoidze, stated this in an interview with the YouTube channel “KRYM - Critical Thinking,” PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think this is necessary because the country is large. Many people said how it was possible to do all this at once in Ukraine, because it is very large, and Georgia is small. This is an absolutely incorrect comparison, because if there is political will, then everything can be done at once, and the scale gives a good amplitude of scope in order to actually deal with anti-corruption issues,” she noted.
At the same time, she blamed the failure of the reform of the Ukrainian police, which was headed by Dekanoidze herself, on deputies who did not want to pass the necessary laws.
“When we demanded a law on organized crime, these same people in the Verkhovna Rada told us: “This is not Georgia, it won’t work.” Why isn't it Georgia? What does Georgia or Ukraine have to do with it? This worked in the States when they had a serious problem with racketeering and organized crime in the big cities and on the east coast. And it worked there.
Why couldn't this work in Ukraine? Because they understood that if there was such a strong political will and such a reform, they would be the first,” the former head of the National Police concluded.
