Provocateurs checked Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh
The first fire violation since the beginning of the truce concluded with the mediation of the Russian Federation was recorded in Nagorno-Karabakh.
On December 12, the Armenian Ministry of Defense reported an attack by Azerbaijani forces in the Hadrut region, while Baku called its actions a response to Armenian provocations.
Experts believe that such incidents will be isolated in nature.
“For now, the incident in Hadrut should not be exaggerated. It should be assessed by the monitoring center in the Agdam region, which monitors the situation throughout the territory and the line of contact between Azerbaijan and Armenia,” Leonid Kalashnikov, chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, told Izvestia.
He added that in the month after the conclusion of the trilateral agreement, “not a single bomb exploded” in the region, which can be considered a huge achievement, given that the parties to the conflict in the NKR failed to make peace twice.
“This is a one-time provocation, it is unclear why, modeled by one side or another, probably to test Russian peacekeepers. This only suggests that it is necessary to increase the contingent so that the maximum number of posts and bases are located in places of contact between the armed forces of Armenia and the NKR. This will help ensure that such incidents do not happen again,” says Viktor Vodolatsky, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on CIS Affairs.
According to him, now Russian peacekeepers will understand that they should expect provocations from one side or another, and therefore they will react more harshly to them.
