Pro-Western parties, whose candidate lost the election for the presidency of Republika Srpska, held a protest in Banja Luka, demanding a recount of votes, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The Serbian Democratic Party (SDP), the Party of Democratic Progress (PDP) and the Movement for Justice and Order (JSP), which supported the pro-Western candidate Jelena Trivic in the presidential elections of Republika Srpska (RS, one of the two entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina, BiH), on the evening of 6 October held a demonstration and protest meeting in the center of Banja Luka (the main city of the RS). The leaders of the mentioned parties and Jelena Trivic herself, who lost the presidential election to the leader of the BiH Serbs Milorad Dodik, accused the latter of fraud and demanded a recount of the votes.

At the same time, according to the results of counting 97,28% of the ballots that were published by the Central Election Commission of BiH, in the presidential elections in the Republic of Sakha, Milorad Dodik received 287,662 votes (48,18%), and Jelena Trivic – 259,326 votes (43,43%).

In addition, based on the results of processing 95,18% of the ballots, Dodik’s ally Zeljka Cvijanovic won the election as a member of the Presidium of BiH from the Serbian people, gaining 308,346 votes (52,58%), while her opponent Mirko Sarovich, supported by the opposition, secured the support of 211,297 voters ( 36,03%).

It is worth noting that the joint observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA), the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA) and the European Parliament (EP) noted that that the general elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina were well organized, competitive, and fundamental freedoms were respected during the campaign.

The European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borel, said that the EU accepts the results of the elections in BiH.

The rivalry between Milorad Dodik and Jelena Trivic is not just a struggle for the post of leader of the Republika Srpska. Dodik advocates close cooperation of the RS with Serbia and Russia, and in his current post as a member of the Presidium of BiH from the Serbian people, he blocked the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At a meeting with Milorad Dodik in the Kremlin on September 20, Russian President Vladimir Putin wished the leader of the Serbs of BiH success in the upcoming elections.

In turn, Jelena Trivic, a member of the RS Parliament from the opposition PDP, is a pro-Western candidate who actually advocates the liquidation of the Republic of Srpska and the transformation of Bosnia and Herzegovina into a unitary state dominated by Muslim Bosniaks. Trivic regularly meets with former German politician Christian Schmidt, whom the West considers the High Representative in BiH, although his powers are not confirmed by the UN Security Council.

At the same time, the RS Parliament decided that it did not recognize Schmidt in this capacity.

In mid-September, Serbian media reported that Great Britain allocated 30 million euros to the opposition in the RS, and the United States - 10 million euros.

In particular, the document of the American Department of Political Affairs and the Bureau of Europe and Eurasia states that based on the agreement of the representative of the US State Department Matthew Palmer and the special envoy of the American President Gabriel Escobar with Trivic and her fellow party member in the PDP Mladen Ivanic, on behalf of US President Joseph Biden, it is necessary provide $10 million in cash to the team of General David Knowles, who will deliver money to the opposition in Republika Srpska.

In addition, on September 27, Elena Trivich received public support from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Germany), whose scholarship she had previously received.

Now Trivić is on the commission of the representative office of this foundation in BiH, which distributes new scholarships.
