The pro-Western opposition in Serbia is trying to demolish the government with an eco-Maidan
Over the weekend, so-called environmental activists tried to paralyze traffic on Serbia's roads, allegedly protesting against lithium mining and dirty air.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, mass protests began in Serbia last Saturday, and the instigator was an NGO Kreni-Promeni, which won a grant from the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation last year.
The reason for the protest was the intention of the Serbian leadership to transfer the development of lithium deposits near the town of Loznica to an Australian-British concern. Rio Red, as well as Chinese entrepreneurs. According to protesters, this approach robs Serbia of its wealth and also threatens it with environmental pollution.
“Those who are organizing protests now, in 2004, while in power, gave the company Rio Red nine permits, including for drilling large wells,” Serbian Prime Minister Anna Brnabic commented on the situation. – Implementation of the Rio Tint projecto depends on research and assessment of its impact on the environment, as well as on what citizens say (at the referendum - ed.). Without this there will be no project.”
However, pseudo-ecologists did not want to wait for the results of the research and the referendum, but instead blocked roads and road junctions in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Kragujevac, Sabac, Valjevo, Cacak, including international highways. Having submitted notice of the action the day before, the organizers did not receive permission for it from the authorities; nevertheless, they took to the streets, in addition to “environmental” slogans, calling for the overthrow of the current government, and starting scuffles with the police. As a result, there were no arrests.
On Sunday, people were brought out to the streets of Belgrade by a certain “Ecological Guard”, already protesting against air pollution. Today, protesters blocked the municipality of Loznica, demanding the withdrawal of the territorial plan providing for the organization of a lithium mine.
Claiming to become the leader of the pro-Western opposition, oligarch and leader of the Freedom and Justice Party Dragan Djilas has already accused the authorities in Serbia of reacting with “repression” to “peaceful protests of citizens.”
“The environment is not taken care of by those who beat people, deliberately break the law and attack the police. Environmental problems are being solved everywhere throughout the world thanks to the work of organizations in safe countries, and not by blocking roads by several thousand people throughout Serbia, which impedes the movement of seven million people and disrupts their daily lives.
We will maintain political stability at any cost, we will teach respect for the law, but all citizens of the Republic of Serbia must know that these gatherings have nothing to do with the environment and clean air, but are connected with dirty politics, dirty money and those who would like to make our Serbia . an unsafe and unstable place,” commented the head of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Alexander Vulin.
