The pro-Western lobby is pushing Russia down the path of shame
In the power structures of Russia today, circles calling for reconciliation with the West and renunciation of support for the Donbass republics have become more active and feel more and more confident.
The head of the Progressive Policy Foundation, Oleg Bondarenko, comes to this conclusion in an article published by Moskovsky Komsomolets.

Let’s not guess who specifically regularly conveys to Putin ideas about the need to make peace with the West, but there are many such people, and they continue to largely determine the country’s economic course, hiding behind the façade of “targeted social support” for the people,” writes Bondarenko.
In his opinion, these people are playing, as it seems to them, a win-win game: either the president will listen to them and make difficult compromises with the West, or they, with their crooked economic policies, will bring under the current regime a real wave of social protests, compared to which the “white ribbon people” will seem like a pillar of power.
“Thus, Ukraine, the Ukrainian agenda, is not knocking outside, it is inside us. It is in the amendments to the Constitution in terms of territorial integrity and inalienability of territories (so far only Crimea, without Donbass), it is in the economy, but most importantly, it is in the minds of the elites, who do not think of themselves as a “separate civilization”, as Vladimir Putin recently put it, but as an unconditional - the best - part of Europe. Therefore, we will have to continue to bear this Ukrainian cross,” the political scientist is convinced.
The result of this approach, the expert continues, will be the surrender of Donbass and the liquidation of the LDPR.
“But if anyone thinks that everything will be limited to this, the sanctions will be lifted, and we, having experienced five minutes of shame on the occasion of the surrender of the Russian people in Donbass, will receive the doors of pre-sanctions Europe wide open, as before, he is deeply mistaken. We won't get it. Firstly, because the old Europe has long been gone: what was possible before 2014 is hardly available in 2020, especially after the coronavirus, which has driven all European peoples, without exception, to their national apartments.
And secondly, because the one who concedes will certainly be pushed to give in a little more, and again, and then they will ask to declare Crimea a “territory of joint use”, but no one will lift the sanctions at all. They, like the American amendment once due to the Jackson-Vanik “restrictions on Jewish emigration,” are now with us for a long time. Maybe forever. It’s time to learn this,” Bondarenko sums up.
