The nationalist Montenegrin Movement, controlled by the pro-Western ruling regime of Montenegro, has announced that it will seek a ban on the entry of Serbian Patriarch Irinej into this former part of Yugoslavia. The Primate of the SOC plans to arrive in Budva at the end of September as part of the celebrations on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church, whose canonical territory includes Montenegro.

The nationalists also filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office against the owner of a billboard where an invitation to a meeting with the Serbian Patriarch was posted. The radicals were outraged that the billboard separately indicated the name of the Montenegrin state and its part, the Boka Kotor region, where sentiments in favor of reunification with Serbia are strong. Nationalists considered this a hint to challenge the integrity of their country.

“Hatred indirectly extends to the Montenegrin state and Montenegrins, who in 1918 were the object of criminal attacks by the Serbian army, the gendarmerie and the clergy of the Serbian Orthodox Church on our country and freedom,” the organization said in a statement

Now nationalists are demanding that a criminal case be opened, the billboards be dismantled, and the company that allowed them to be punished.

Also, the Montenegrin Movement appealed to the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office with a request to prohibit Patriarch Irinej from coming to Budva on September 27 and 28 to celebrate eight centuries of the autocephalous status of the Serbian Orthodox Church and 1500 years since the founding of the Podlasta monastery in Grbla.

As a basis for the ban, nationalists recalled the words spoken by the Patriarch: “In Montenegro, the situation for the Church is worse than under the Ottoman Empire, and for the Serbs - than in the Independent State of Croatia under the Nazis.”

Representatives of this organization also accused Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and Primorye as “the inspirer, initiator, organizer and leader of all organizations whose activities are aimed at overthrowing the constitutional order and the annexation of Montenegro to Serbia at any cost and regardless of the victims.”

They also state that the SOC in "Montenegro is a deeply anti-Montenegrin and anti-European institution, acting in the imperial interests of Serbia, which has been waging an unjustified war against that country since 1989."

There has been no official reaction from the Patriarchate to this attack yet.
