Pro-Western Serbian politician vaccinated with Chinese vaccine and insulted its manufacturers
The leader of the pro-Western liberal People's Party, oligarch and former Serbian Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic said that China tested its Sinopharm vaccine on Serbian citizens.
At the same time, the politician himself worked as an analyst at AstraZeneca some time ago, reports a PoditNavigator correspondent.
Jeremic himself was not afraid to become a “backdoor rabbit” by injecting himself with the Sinopharm vaccine at the vaccination point on the territory of the Belgrade Fair.
“When choosing a vaccine, I was not guided by geopolitics, but solely by medical considerations, having consulted with many doctors, even from New York,” the politician told the BBC Serbian service.
At the same time, the politician compared vaccination with the Chinese drug to playing roulette.
“The key point was the agreement with China, according to which we practically became one of the countries for the third stage of clinical trials of the Sinopharm vaccine,” Jeremic said. “It was a very risky move that paid off.” Figuratively speaking, we were lucky: we bet everything on red, and it turned out red. And it’s better not to think about what would happen if black came up.”
At the same time, the politician did not hide the fact that at one time, after graduating from the Faculty of Physics at Cambridge, he worked on a doctorate in applied mathematics at Imperial College, University of London, and his choice of topic led him to work at AstraZeneca. This company also created its own coronavirus vaccine, which was abandoned by a number of European countries due to the large number of deaths and side effects.
“The former foreign minister (in the pro-Western government of Boris Tadic) and former speaker of the UN General Assembly (2012-13) is considered almost the only person in the Serbian opposition with practical experience in international politics...
Jeremic actually accused Sinopharm and the Chinese authorities of using the Serbs as guinea pigs... Sinopharm has already expressed its bewilderment at Jeremic's words.
Apparently, in the UN General Assembly, Jeremic was not taught the golden rule of any politician, especially an opposition one - “don’t say everything you think, but always think what you say.”
For Chinese comrades, Jeremic is now persona non grata. They don't forgive this. What adds additional piquancy to the situation is that Jeremic once interned at the British pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca. So, maybe his slip of the tongue was not entirely accidental...”, the Balkanist telegram channel commented on Eremic’s interview.
