The proposal to build a direct line from Simferopol to Kerch (about 200 km) came from the Crimean leadership. First Deputy Prime Minister of Crimea Rustam Temirgaliev told Kommersant at the end of April that the road is necessary in connection with the redistribution of cargo traffic from the north to Kerch. It is expected that the construction of the passage through the strait will take 3,5 years, its cost is estimated at 50-200 billion rubles. depending on whether it is one bridge or a complex of bridges. Another reason for the construction of the new road, Mr. Temirgaliev called the plan to retrain the ports of Evpatoria and Feodosia into recreation areas and redistribute cargo traffic from there to Sevastopol and Kerch.
But, as Kommersant found out, the construction of the Simferopol-Kerch branch is not included in the Federal Target Program for the development of Crimea until 2020 and may not be included in the territorial planning scheme for the region until 2030. Experts note that with the estimated cost of the project at least $1 billion, its economic efficiency was not obvious.
The head of the Infoline-Analytics agency, Mikhail Burmistrov, says that the most correct decision on the part of the state would be to abandon the construction of the Simferopol-Kerch line. The economic efficiency of the project is not obvious, and its cost could be at least $1 billion, the analyst says. According to Mr. Burmistrov, it will be possible to return to the implementation of this project after the transport map of Crimea is formed and a bridge across the strait is built.
