Psaki scares China with Ukrainian consequences
If a destabilizing conflict involving Russia and Ukraine occurs in Europe, this will affect Chinese interests.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, White House press secretary Jen Psaki said this at a briefing in Washington, answering the question of how she felt about the fact that the United States was not invited to the meeting that Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping will hold today.
“Diplomatic meetings take place all the time. Our national security adviser, it seems, just recently spoke with his colleague. Let me get all the specific details so I can make sure this is accurate for you,” the spokeswoman responded.
Then she decided for some reason to link the Ukrainian issue to this topic.
“And, you know, our view and assessment is that - oh, I have to say, sorry - Secretary of State Blinken recently spoke with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, his counterpart, and emphasized the global security and economic risk posed by further Russian aggression against Ukraine, and conveyed that de-escalation and diplomacy are the responsible way forward. You know, that's the message that we continue to convey, including the fact that a destabilizing conflict in Europe will affect Chinese interests around the world. China knows this for sure,” Psaki said.
She also believes that the current Russian-Belarusian exercises “are escalation, not de-escalation.”
