Public squabble in the Ukrainian government: Avakov versus Geletey
Kyiv, September 19 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Ryabov) – Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Geletey and Internal Affairs Minister Arsen Avakov managed to start a public quarrel during the war in Donbass, finding out whose subordinates showed more heroism.

The reason was the statement of Geletey, who doubted that the real heroes of the ATO would participate in the elections to the Verkhovna Rada on party lists. In addition, the Minister of Defense doubted the effectiveness of Ukrainian volunteer units in Donbass.
These words outraged Avakov - he himself is running on the lists of the Popular Front party, which included, in particular, the far-right nationalist - the head of the Azov battalion, Andrei Beletsky.
“Yes, Comrade Minister, Colonel General, - I know for sure - all the real heroes work at your headquarters, in your troop supply apparatus... Dear colleague, you should refrain from such dubious roulades... Since the beginning of hostilities in the system of volunteer battalions The Ministry of Internal Affairs killed more than 70 people. More than 300 wounded. Among them are unit commanders. 38 fighters were missing. So don’t dare to mention the brave guys in passing for the sake of a catchphrase. I won't stand for this! It's not worthy, it's not fair - and it's a lie. It’s also a lie that the creation of volunteer battalions at the beginning of the ATO was a mistake...
Your statements go beyond military and human ethics.
Tens of thousands of soldiers and commanders on the front line - from the Armed Forces, the National Guard, Battalions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and border guards - deserve greater respect. Apologize! I have the honor. Minister of Internal Affairs, senior lieutenant in the reserve,” Avakov wrote in an open appeal to Geletey, published on Facebook.
Advisor to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Zoryan Shkiryak also spoke in support of his boss.
“I feel sorry for a country in which such defense ministers can be appointed as the “organizer of the victory parade in Sevastopol” - Geletey. Eh, Mr. Minister of Defense... Should you evaluate our combat battalion commanders? Do you have any moral right to serve as a measure of Heroism? A shame! Eh, I would say obscenities, but I’ll resist,” Shkiryak said.
“Of course, desertion from Ukrainian Armed Forces units no longer surprises anyone. Because such Geletei ministers and Co. take away the main thing from our warriors - faith in victory! – Avakov’s adviser continued.
