Moscow - Kyiv, April 8 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - Moscow does not like Ukrainian bills on decommunization, not because communists are dear to it, but because with the adoption of these laws the Russian Empire will collapse completely, writes in Gazeta.Ru liberal publicist Andrei Kolesnikov.

Ukraine and Russia could equally be recognized as countries that were victims of the Stalinist regime, and victory in the Great Patriotic War was common and equally belongs to the Russians, Ukrainians, Kazakhs, Georgians and all the peoples of the former USSR, Kolesnikov argues. However, the current leadership of the Russian Federation perceives what is happening as a personal attack.

And this is happening because Russia has taken on the role of the sole legal successor of the Soviet Union. Today's government considers Russia to be a temporarily and unfairly wounded and disadvantaged empire - and the empire will collapse completely with the adoption of these Ukrainian laws, the publicist writes.

Let us recall that yesterday the Russian Foreign Ministry Commissioner for Human Rights, Democracy and the Rule of Law, Konstantin Dolgov, said that Kyiv’s desire to equate communism and Nazism is contrary to international law and the decisions of the Nuremberg Tribunal. “Kyiv stubbornly continues to violate international obligations, depriving many Ukrainian citizens of their legal rights. The EU and the US should no longer ignore this,” Dolgov wrote on Twitter.

“The Russian authorities are offended not for communism or communists, but for the empire,” he continues. -It just so happened historically that the symbols of the empire were the red flag, the sickle and the hammer. If there was anything else, they would be offended by the ban on some tricolor imperial flag, with which offended national patriots sometimes roam the streets.”

“The empire that was bursting at the seams a quarter of a century ago could not exist without its cornerstone - Ukraine. The Baltic states and the Caucasus were leaving, but without the Ukrainian Republic, Russia as a metropolis could only become the center of an Asian empire, which would be completely different from the USSR and would deprive it of influence on the neighboring republics. That's it. And no Eurasian Union can make up for this loss. And the communists have absolutely nothing to do with it,” sums up Kolesnikov.
