Bortnik's frightening forecast: Ukraine is on the verge of war and protests
Ukraine is on the verge of large-scale protests or military escalation.
Political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the Nash TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the government is increasingly acquiring the features of authoritarianism, and the country is moving into isolation, which aggravates conflicts in society.
“What is happening in our country flows absolutely logically from global processes. We have the same tendency towards authoritarianism and the same tendency towards isolationism. A tilt towards authoritarianism leads to a conflict with big business and the opposition within the country, a tilt towards isolationism leads to a conflict with foreign partners and other external players. We are developing absolutely within the framework of the global processes that are happening around the world today,” the expert said.
“How are we going to get out of this situation? There are two classic ways out - either a new large-scale protest, or a new war, unfortunately. The logic of political science gives these classic solutions. Of course, you and I would like transformation of the country, transformation, a new social contract, broad discussion, all of this, or new early elections. But this is not available to us today, nor in the near future. Therefore, we face serious risks or mass protests. Moreover, today we cannot predict the cause or date of these protests or a new military escalation,” Bortnik said.
