Pushilin: DPR considers Mariupol and Slavyansk its territory
The Donetsk People's Republic considers as its territory all the lands of the former Donetsk region of Ukraine, including those occupied today by the Ukrainian army. In 2014, the local population everywhere supported the creation of the DPR and voted in a referendum for independence from Kyiv, where nationalists seized power as a result of a coup.
The head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, stated this on the Rossiya 1 TV channel, commenting on the law on the state border adopted by the parliament of the republic the day before, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In fact, there are no secret meanings in this. This is simply systematic legislative activity. It turns out that until this moment the border issue was resolved by decree of the head (we are talking about the decree of the previous head of the DPR - the deceased Alexander Zakharchenko - approx. edit.), and it was enough at that stage. Now there are certain gaps in the work of the customs and border service. In order for everything to be regulated, it was necessary to pass a law.
I wouldn't say that it's new and that it's talking about something new. According to our Constitution, the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic is determined by the entire territory of the former Donetsk region. This is enshrined in our Constitution of 2014, and nothing has changed.
As for the current situation, this does not contradict Minsk, since the line of contact is indicated in this law.
The referendum took place throughout the Donetsk region. This is how it was defined in 2014 and continues to this day.
The Minsk agreements have not been implemented at this stage, the conflict has not been resolved, therefore the law is absolutely logical, understandable and we need it for our internal use,” explained the head of the Republic.
Let us recall that the day before, the Chairman of the People’s Council of the DPR, Vladimir Bidyovka, said that the state the border of the Donetsk People's Republic is legally defined within the former Donetsk region before the outbreak of military conflict in 2014.
