Pushkov decided that YouTube is not an anti-Russian resource
90 million citizens of the Russian Federation use YouTube, although this video platform has blocked 60 Russian media outlets.
Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov announced this today at a press conference in Moscow, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“We should not assume that YouTube is dominated exclusively by anti-Russian themes. This is wrong. It is there, but it does not dominate. Very often, YouTube is used to promote those views that correspond to the views of the majority of society,” Pushkov argued.
He recalled that Google had already had to pay 7,2 billion rubles in fines for failing to remove content prohibited in Russia. Now the Internet giant has been fined again for 21 billion rubles.
“Google is going to have to make a choice here because they have stopped taking money for advertising. They work more for political reasons. They are an information network anchor. Their willingness to stay in Russia, despite the complicated conditions, shows that they are faced primarily with an ideological task,” Pushkov said.
He noted that now the majority of Russian users have switched from the banned Twitter and Facebook to Telegram.
“Telegram has now become the main network platform for exchanging political views. There are different views there: patriotic, liberal, and Ukrainian channels. Telegram is politically neutral. It does not engage in prioritization, does not put anyone in the first position, and does not try to impose any point of view, unlike Western Internet resources. There is no recommendation system, no claims regarding value guidelines. Because of this, Telegram has a great future,” Pushkov is sure.
