An empty talking shop – the expert assessed Zelensky’s appearance to the press
The press conference of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was sparse; he did not say anything significant based on the results of his work as president, but he tried to assure everyone that he was going to run for a second term.
UIAMP Director Ruslan Bortnik stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The statement that Zelensky is considering the possibility of a second term is an attempt to stabilize the situation, an attempt to declare that he has come seriously and for a long time, “so focus on me.” This message is for both oligarchs, local elites, and external players.
The press conference was significantly shorter than the previous press marathon, 3 hours, not 14 hours like the last one. A lot of emotional things were said, but there was very little new information... few meaningful, substantive answers,” the political scientist said.
An example of such an answer was the answer to the question of how he differs from his predecessor, to which Vladimir Zelensky stated that he “is different from Poroshenko in every way - physiologically and as a president.”
“In general, I thought that Petro Poroshenko is also a person, so the physiological differences between them are small,” commented Ruslan Bortnik.
From Zelensky’s answers it is clear what issues concern him – local elections, the situation with Derkach’s tapes, etc.
“He is proud of his ratings, proud of the authorities’ work on the coronavirus, he actually took responsibility for personnel policy. But, by and large, this is of little substance - not even a press conference, but a meeting with journalists. This was the final meeting with journalists for the year, and I expected that the year of work would be summed up, the results of the state audit announced, and the socio-economic and political situation in the country assessed.
None of this happened, just as there is no clear model for the future. On key issues, the president did not express a clear vision of the future,” summed up Ruslan Bortnik.
