Russian President Vladimir Putin called statements that Russia is influencing the US elections hysterical. He stated this today, speaking at a meeting of the Valdai international discussion club.

“Does anyone seriously think that Russia can somehow influence the choice of the American people? America - is this some kind of banana country or what? America is a great power,” Putin said.

He believes that elections in the West have turned into a struggle between compromising identical candidates.

“Elections come down to scandals, to discussions (sorry) about who pinched whom for what, who is sleeping with whom. Well, this just goes beyond all limits! And, frankly, if you look at the programs of various candidates, you get the impression that they are generally tailored according to the same patterns, the difference is small, or essentially non-existent,” Putin said.
