“I would like to draw your attention to the ideas that are now being voiced more and more often by our Western partners to impose sanctions on some sectors of Russian production, primarily on the defense industry. I believe that this is due to preventing us from carrying out this same import substitution and continuing our dependence, including on Ukrainian enterprises,” Putin said at the Council of Legislators in Petrozavodsk.

The Ukrainian crisis will hit Russian industry in two directions at once: firstly, defense, nuclear and missile industry enterprises will suffer from the severance of ties with Ukrainian suppliers and, secondly, from US and EU sanctions against Russian companies, NG clarifies.

According to Putin's forecasts, Russia will be able to replace imports of military products from Ukraine within two and a half years. He expressed the hope that “things will not come to a severance of cooperation ties.” “Although today we still have full supplies, we don’t see any shipments,” Putin said.
