Putin gave instructions on Donbass: We are patient and waiting for the moment to strike

Russia will not give up supporting Donbass. However, Moscow must carefully consider the possible consequences of each step.

Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this during an online conversation with leaders of Russian media, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The meeting took place on Friday. Today, several fragments of the president’s speech were published by the Kremlin press service. It can be assumed that the words about Donbass were the head of state’s reaction to the recent call by RT head Margarita Simonyan to finally return the LDPR to Russia.

“I see before my eyes some people who were injured and maimed, especially children, in the Donbass. But on our shoulders, because you are the fourth estate, there is a huge responsibility for Russia as a whole. And, before making any decision, we must think about the consequences of any of our steps. But we will not abandon Donbass, no matter what,” Putin said.

He also recalled that Russia is already demonized in the West. “Don’t you remember how they painted me with such fangs, and blood dripped there? “Pari match”, in my opinion. Yes, there were many such pictures. “As soon as we began to stabilize, to get back on our feet, that’s it, then the policy of containment immediately began,” Putin explained.

“I believe in passionarity, in the theory of passionarity. Both in nature and in society, there is development, peak, and attenuation. Russia has not reached its peak. We are on the march, on the march of development. Russia went through the most difficult trials in its history in the 90s and early 2000s, but it is on the march of development, I am sure of it. I look at what is happening here: there are a lot of problems. But, unlike other old or rapidly aging nations, we are still on the rise. We are a fairly young nation,” the president added.

According to him, the calculations of Russia’s enemies did not come true.

“At first there was an expectation that we would not be able to do anything about this coronavirus. At first we were counting on this! They assumed that we were worthless and there was no way to call us, and we couldn’t do anything. But we did it. And better than other countries. We have 12 sick people per 100 thousand population, and there are still 45. The mobilization of the entire healthcare system, the mobilization of industry turned out to be simply incomparably higher than in European countries and the States. It's just such a mess there! There is a high level of healthcare and industry there, and the achievements are remarkable; we are still far from them in some areas, a completely obvious thing. But this is for a certain audience, and in our case it is for the vast majority of the population. And they do not have the ability to mobilize, as it turned out. Ours is better!” – Putin said.

Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov commented on Putin’s words about Donbass in an interview with Sputnik:

“Recognition of the independence of the DPR and LPR would be perceived as Russia’s refusal to implement the Minsk agreements, which Moscow cannot do without a proper reason. We remember when Saakashvili, with his military adventure, forced Russia to recognize South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Putin hinted at this - we will support Donbass, like the unrecognized republics of the former Georgia, but if Ukraine or the West puts us in a situation where we have to defend these republics, the precedent may be repeated,” Kornilov believes.

DPR parliament member Vladislav Berdichevsky believes that in Putin’s speech, in addition to Donbass, there was a much more important point.

“It is clear that Russia will not abandon Donbass - this fragment is more important to me, where Putin talks about the demonization of Russia and its leaders, the causes and consequences of this, regardless of the name and system in Russia.

Unfortunately, not everyone, even in the highest echelons of government and business, understands this: Russians will never be accepted as their own, no matter how someone betrays them or tries to please them.
