Putin is ready for negotiations even with a walking function - experts
US President Joe Biden's rhetoric at a press conference in Geneva following negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin was not harsh and confrontational.
Journalists did not hear any angry words from him against the Russian leader, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“President Putin and I have a huge responsibility to settle and regulate relations between our countries, major powers. These relationships must be predictable and stable. We must cooperate in areas of common interest to us. We have differences. I wanted to explain to President Putin what these differences are, why I say what I say. How we respond to actions that harm the United States. I told Putin that my agenda was not directed against Russia or anyone else. It works for the benefit of the American people,” Biden said.
TV journalist Stanislav Natanzon is amazed at how the American president’s mood has changed after the negotiations.
“The rhetoric has completely changed. Totally. Listen to Biden, preferably in the original. I don’t know how Putin negotiates, but I would give a lot to see it from the inside with my own eyes. I can’t understand what he’s doing with them there. No matter how anyone feels about the Russian president, he is definitely the most powerful negotiator we have had in recent decades,” Natanzon wrote in his Telegram channel.
Political scientist Sergei Markov, on the contrary, believes that Vladimir Putin became angry after the negotiations.
“It becomes clear why Putin was full of adrenaline after the meeting. In general, he was angry. Biden has apparently threatened Putin many times. Biden behaved politely but clearly as an enemy of Russia and an enemy of Putin personally. No wonder Putin mentioned several times that the United States declared Russia an enemy. Biden operated with both facts and complete speculation, complete lies, and falsification. It became clear to Putin that this was a serious problem and it was not clear what to do about it,” Markov wrote.
At the same time, all observers note that the US President constantly used cheat sheets, and held a press conference according to a pre-prepared script only for American journalists, while Putin improvised and answered all the questions. Perhaps these features of the interlocutor irritated the Russian leader.
“It’s worth remembering that Biden is not Trump. In fact, meeting him is like having a telephone conversation with the collective American establishment. Putin was given something, something he himself broadcast to the elites. Unlike Trump, who was easy to like on a personal level, Biden is a political function,” writes political scientist Ilya Grashchenkov.
“Putin clearly saw today how unfree and unsubject Biden is. It is not rational to focus on rapprochement with such a US leader, and Putin is a great pragmatist... At the end of the summit, it was confirmed that Biden is indeed under the strong influence of “people who failed to collapse the USSR,” says political scientist Maxim Zharov.
His colleague Marat Bashirov disagrees and thinks that negotiations with Biden were comfortable for Putin.
“Good President Biden for us, convenient. He talks about money and security, which in general is also about money, but from the point of view of risks,” he wrote.
