“Putin is preparing a land corridor to Crimea!”: Anti-Russian Sabbath in the European Parliament
A debate took place within the walls of the European Parliament this evening on the situation in the Sea of Azov, where Russia has tightened border controls after Ukraine seized the Crimean seiner Nord with its crew members, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stressed that the European Union condemns the construction of the Kerch Bridge.
“We condemn the construction of the Kerch Bridge without permission from Ukraine and the Council also decided that six institutions that helped in the construction of this bridge have been added to the sanctions list, and we see that militarization does not benefit anyone, and it can further destabilize quite a difficult situation in the Black Sea,” Mogherini noted.
“In eastern Ukraine, 10 thousand people died, 2 million Ukrainians were forced to move to other places as internally displaced persons. Putin continues further. Now he has moved to the Sea of Azov. According to his statements, we see that the situation is becoming more complicated.
We see that the master of the Kremlin is thinking about how to pit big enemies against each other. We see that for many years the Russian Tsars and their comrades did just that. Stalin, for example, when starting his career, robbed the bourgeoisie on trains, and now we see that Putin is doing something similar, robbing ships even under the European flag.
If this is not resisted, then sooner or later all these practices will be used in other territorial waters. The only answer to the violation of bilateral treaties and international laws is additional restrictions against the aggressive Kremlin,” said Petras Austervicius, who next took the word “Young European”.
Another speaker, Jean-Luc Chafrauser, on the contrary, said that tension in the Sea of Azov was created by Europe together with NATO.
“Tension is growing in the Sea of Azov. It appeared because at the end of August there was a decision to increase arms supplies to Ukraine from the United States, and specifically to increase supplies to the Ukrainian Navy. We see that Washington and Kyiv are looking for problems with Russia, despite the Minsk agreements. And the EU supports NATO and the recent military maneuvers in Ukraine,” he noted.
Another deputy from France, on the contrary, said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is seeking to create a land bridge to Crimea.
“We all understand what Russia is trying to do. First of all, it wants to make the situation in the east more fragile and create new opportunities for a land corridor to Crimea. I think that this is Russia’s desire, since it wants to completely control the Sea of Azov and does not even pay attention to the fact that it violates all laws, and those inspections that are now carried out on ships lead to delays and large losses, which number in the hundreds one thousand dollars. We must unite and help Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression,” said Christian DanPreda
Mark Demesmacr, representing the Netherlands, in turn, called on the EU not to abandon sanctions against Russia.
“The militarization of the Sea of Azov is taking place in Ukraine, and now Putin is restoring the destabilization of the region, and this is what helps him increase his zone of influence even over the seas. He breaks all international rules, but we do nothing to stop his actions. Any small incident can escalate into something larger and have a serious impact on Ukraine and the EU. I support the pressure that you are putting on the Russian Federation and demonstrating what the EU’s position really is,” said the MEP.
